Slide show depicting Rajasthan's must-sees
Why seeing Top 20 with us!
We make use of our expertise to present you Rajasthan's travel highlights in somewhat unique ways. Firstly, we know to arrange visits of the most popular sites at certain times that help you to avoid the crowds. Secondly, we can combine the standard round tours with some little extras that other tourists usually don't come to see, surprising you with the charme of the hidden gems on the way. Moreover, as locals we provide a true chance to come into contact with that kind of Rajasthan hospitality that is not part of the tourism industry. We will not reduce the beloved label "authentic" to an empty slogan.
We love to show you more than usual, if you agree to spend more time of the day for the sightseeing experiences. However, we understand that holiday makers need or like to recreation. This is why we also offer pure highlights tours that are realxed and don't start early in the morning. What we recommend most for restorativel travel holidays is to have the best of both worlds: Just include only a few intense days, for a change. And on days of relaxation decide spontaneously if you want to indulge in extra activities we offer as options only. |

Rajasthan in general is the picturebook fairyland of India and crowded with dream destinations for travelers. Asked for the most stunnig place of interest of them all, our first choice would be Udaipur, the "City of Lakes" or "Venice of the East", abundance in water contributing to the fascinating beauty of historic monuments, with the iconic "Lake Palace" or "Jag Niwas" in Pichola Lake as the brilliant white dot on the I. The "Lake Garden Palace" or "Jag Mandir" further south is another island palace on the same lake, which is only one of three lakes in the city.
The much larger city palace dominating both Udaipur town and Pichola Lake is partly from the 16th century. Actually, it's a forticication housing an entire ensemble of palaces from various centuries. Many of them are open to the public and house a museum. The old town neighbouring the city palace is a quarter packed with multistorey Havelis, many of them providing an authentic kind of accommodation or having rooftop restaurants with perfect views to the lake. Udaipur also houses excellent ancient temples such as the richly decorated Jagdish and the only slightly smaller Jagat Siromani and the white Mahakaleshwar. Moreover, there are several historical gardens within the city and nearby, for example Saheliyon Ki Bari, and a large variety of museums exhibiting folk art or vintage cars or wax sculptures for example. The immidiate surroundings of Udaipur offer further attractions such as sunset point Machla Magra Hills with Kali Mata temple or Udai Sagar Lake or Ahar Cenotaph. Neemach Mata temple and Monsoon Palace are also excellent vantage points. This wide range of attractions is another reason why Udaipur is ranked top in our list of destinations. It's rich in history and the pride of Rajasthan, as it was the capital of the kingdom of Mewar reigned by the Sisodia clan, that more than other Rajput clans resisted Moghul and other foreign rule over northern India and plays an important role in the Udaipur's culture till the present day. |
Jaisalmer, "The Golden city", is the desert capital of India. Jaisalmer has two major attractions each of which alone would grant Jaisalmere a top ranking.
Firstly, the fort known as Trikoot Garh and nicknamed Sonar Kila, is the largest among those many that are found in the various towns of Rajasthan. Actually, in the case of Jaisalmer, the fort is an entire fortified city, the Royal Palace forming only the smaller part of it. One of the other highlights is a richly decorated Jain temple, actually, there are five of them, but due to the lack of building area in the fort they are close-knit and seem to form a single complex. Chandraprabhu temple has the most impressive interior decoration of the dome. Secondly, the Lower Town at the foot of the fort on Meru Hill forms the larger part of the town and it's equally worth seeing, as it is in the Lower Town that you can find India's most impressive Havelis (mansions of merchants). These are the masterpieces of the Silavats (stone-cutters), the most intricate stone carvings you will find anywhere in the world. The most famous ones are Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli, and Salim Singh Ki Haweli also known as Moti Mahal. The immidiate surroundings of Jaisalmer are also full of surpises. The Gadi Sagar is an entire oasis town at the city gates of Jaisalmere, the Lodurva Jain temple shows a admirable sense for aesthetics, the Vyas Chatris are a picturesque group of cenotaphs on a hill with perfect views to the fort. |
